The seasoned television anchor and newly-minted chat show host donned a grey wig for a segment all about hair on Wednesday, after taking to the streets of Manhattan to show off her 'new look'.

She told viewers: 'More and more women these days are going gray and I decided I wanted to know what it felt like, at least on a temporary basis.'
Katie started out by shocking colleagues at the New York offices for her new ABC show, and was then followed by cameras as she hit the streets to ask strangers what they thought about her 'new look'.
She was later joined by fellow talk show host Wendy Williams, who shared her own wig collection - including one named after the editor-at-large of O, The Oprah Magazine, Gayle King - which Wendy wears to the gym.

'When I'm inspired by somebody else, like you saw in that (video) Poppy Montgomery inspired me to be red. And my "Gale King" wig is the one that I wear to the gym.'
She went on to showcase an array of hairpieces selected with the help of her personal 'wig-ologist', Antoine, but admitted she is very protective over her collection.
Wendy explained: 'Only because you know what? I make a lot of jokes about my wigs, and I pull notes out of them on my show, and everybody knows that I wear wigs.'

Shorter, who has styled the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Jennifer Hudson, explains the appeal of wearing a wig or extensions for many stars, and the every day woman.
'Women just want to have options,' she said.
'So, extensions are a really great way to change your look or try something new without the major commitment... they are an accessory.
'You can really change your personality by trying these hairpieces.'
